Paul and a visitor Johnathan are getting ready to apply some ballast to the layout on a section of track that was redone.

Some of you guys might not know we have a narrow gauge line on our railroad, we actually have more than one narrow gauge set of rails. See that is one of the things about clubs, with lots of different members one is likely to have several different gauges as well as scales and other things like trolley lines.

I am not one of those narrow rails guys but it looks like the narrow stuff is moving along and being tested and updated so we can run trains on it. Granted they will be short skinny and light weight but it is what it is.

Paul and Ron are working on the layout, Paul is actually sitting om the layout. Note if you built your layout out of foam this will likely damage it.

The wooden device with a light bulb is for testing track power, it is also good for finding shorts and mismatched power feeds. Another testing device a locomotive that is finding issues with the track.

Here are some narrow gauge tracks and there seemed to be a short in this area or somewhere close by. It is being investigated.

I just realized I have not taken many photos of the narrow gauge stuff as it really does not have much appeal to me. However others may be interested in it.

I have a few more of these to build and must say I found this to be a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Webmaster comment — ballasted deck trestle at Stonehead Mountain, with sleeping hobo lower left.

This photo has the distinction of showing both projects from today, the yellow threshold and the freight car. One needs to step up and then down to enter the building so in an effort to make the step more noticeable it is bright yellow.

Bob A is testing a train for the open house, a coal train no less.

Above we see a coal train blasting upgrade on the way to the Hickeyville summit only to face more grades on its journey from mine to consumer. The new rockwork is looking pretty good. This section used to be in a tunnel with near vertical sides that many in the club thought was too straight up to be realistic.
